Biography

Thank you for visiting! My name is Kim Paolo Laberinto (He/Him). I am a final year Electrical Engineering B.Sc. student from Winnipeg, Canada graduating in May 2021.

I am currently seeking full-time opportunities on topics related to Machine Learning Development, Data Science, Optimization, Signal Processing, and Scientific Computing. My primary programming languages are Julia and Python, with skillsets in SQL as well. Libraries that I have experience in include PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, and Memento.jl.

Some of my favorite and most memorable experiences I’ve had throughout my degree include:

  • Working on Machine Learning at TRIUMF, Canada’s particle accelerator centre, in Vancouver, BC!
  • Learning with my colleagues in the President’s Student Leadership Program!
  • Working with the team to establish UM ecoMotion and build an electric vehicle!
  • Learning ASL and Michif!

Thank you to all my fellow teammates, fellow students, and fellow organizers who made all these experiences possible!! Thank you as well to my parents who supported me in ways that allowed me so much time to participate in all these things!!

Currently my personal projects include:

  • Using SIRENs (a fascinating way of representing signals using neural networks) in PDE inverse problems.
  • Combining the art of weaving with programming. Imagine computer procedurally designed real-world hand-woven fabric.
  • Contributing to more open source projects!

I am open to both local and remote working opportunities. If you have any suggestions on future opportunities or collaborations that I should consider please feel free to contact me via email at contact@kimlaberinto.com.

Work Experience

May 2018 - December 2018

Assisted the New Product Development team on diagnosing issues and developing solutions for battery-electric buses.

  • Led the development of a battery tester using industry-grade standards and LabVIEW.
Machine Learning Research Student
University of Manitoba · Winnipeg, MB
May 2017 - August 2017

Tested prototype neural networks designs to process mosquito and weather data with the goal for better mosquito population prediction.

  • Programmed in Python, Tensorflow, and Keras to build neural networks.
  • Used Amazon AWS to train neural networks

Leadership & Community Experience

President's Student Leadership Program Participant
University of Manitoba · Winnipeg, MB
July 2019 - March 2029

Chosen participant for a new development program focused on leadership and multidisciplinary collaboration.

  • Learned from industy professionals via seminars, presentations, workshops, and interviews.
  • Collaborated in a multi-disciplinary team to organize events for elementary school youth.
Organizer - Canadian Engineering Competition
Canadian Engineering Competition 2020 · Winnipeg, MB
March 2019 - March 2020

Appointed to create the national Senior Design competition for 3rd and 4th year engineering students. Hosted in Winnipeg, MB for the year 2020.

  • Prepared documents on competition guidelines and rules in English and in French.
  • Organized and purchased electrical and mechanical components for the competing teams.
Professional Development Committee Member

Team Lead and Propulsion-Electric Lead
UM ecoMotion · Winnipeg, MB
January 2016 - July 2018

Executive founding member for UM ecoMotion, a student team focused on designing, building and competing a ultra-efficient battery-electric vehicle in the Shell Eco-Marathon international competition.

  • Led a team of 7 executives to manage a team of 40+ students with a budget of $35000 to build and compete a full-sized prototype vehicle.
  • Programmed a ODE solver in Matlab to simulate the vehicle under race conditions on the track.
  • Designed a preliminary high-level overview of the propulsion system consisting of components such as a motor, microcontrollers, fuses, switches, and a battery.
  • The team placed as the top Canadian team in its category for two consecutive years in a row.
